In Creo Parametric 11.0, the Extend feature introduces a new method called Extrapolate. This method replaces each surface with a new extrapolated surface that aligns with the original surface within its defined domain, resulting in a smoother surface extension. The extrapolated surface will have a new Surface ID.

The Extrapolate method is particularly useful when the Same surface extension method leads to undesirable outcomes, such as inflections, folding, or failure.

With this expanded range of geometric extension methods, users gain enhanced flexibility and productivity in creating the desired geometry.

When using the Extrapolate option, all surface types except planes will be extrapolated, transforming them into B-Spline or Spline surfaces. If the original surface is neither a Spline nor a B-Spline, the extrapolated surface will closely approximate the original within its domain, while planes will remain unchanged. To extend other analytic surfaces while preserving their properties, use the Same (surface) extension method.

Benefits: Increased flexibility for creating the desired geometry.
