Barrel tools enable larger stepovers while maintaining the same cutting speeds, delivering high-quality surface finishes in a fraction of the time. With shorter tools, dynamic disturbances are minimized. The newly introduced wall and floor 5-axis finishing toolpaths come with several key features:

  • Automatic generation or option to define guide curves
  • Seamless, gouge-free tool axis interpolation
  • Compatibility with barrel tools and spherical mills
  • Automatic tilting based on tool contact points and collision avoidance

User Interface Location:

•Click Mill > High Speed Milling >  Wall 5 Axis Finish.

•Click Mill > High Speed Milling >  Floor 5 Axis Finish.

Benefits:
The enhanced barrel tools offer several advantages:

  • They provide greater contact engagement between the cutter and the workpiece compared to traditional ball nose mills
  • Achieve a smaller cusp height even with a larger stepover
  • Significantly cut down toolpath time on the machine
