In Creo Parametric 11, you now have the ability to control the reference type for boundary surface references in Seed and Boundary surface selection. A new option, “Consider as strong references,” allows you to mark boundary references as strong. If these references are no longer available, Creo will report them as missing strong references, causing the surface collection to fail.

If the option is not selected, boundary references are treated as weak references, maintaining the behavior from previous versions of Creo Parametric. This functionality can be configured via the Creo Parametric Options dialog (Creo Parametric Options > Global > Selection > Surface and Chain Sets). By default, boundary surfaces are considered strong references starting with Creo Parametric 11.

The choice between strong and weak references for boundary surfaces offers more flexibility, allowing you to tune the behavior based on your needs. When set to “strong,” the surface collection will fail if boundary references are missing, even if a valid result could still be returned.
